Hiking trails in Javea

This month, the town of Jávea is organizing guided hiking trail activities that Cumbre del Sol neighbors might find interesting because these activities will take place just 11 Km  from the development.

Granadella Cove – Castell trail via Teuleria (PR-CV354)

This free of charge activity will take place on Sunday 27 May at 09:00 h. from the Granadella Cove parking in Jávea.

People who want to participate in this activity must be on the meeting place (the parking) at 9:00 o’clock. It is not necessary to register in advance and the approximate time which takes this route to be completed is 3 hours.

This route is considered of medium difficulty and you are advised to bring water, food, proper shoes, camera and swimsuit.

Also on Sunday 27 May, there is an activity schedule for 9:00 in the morning to the Natural Park of Montgo.

The route will visit is the Denia visitors Center and the agricultural area of ​​Gata, Jesus Pobre and Jávea,. A guide will explain the cultures, traditions and current status of the place. The estimated duration of this 4 Km, low difficulty hike is 3 hours.

Literacy course in Benitachell

The Departments of Education and Social Services of the town of Benitachell will offer a literacy class for immigrant that will be held from 15 to 28 June.

The main objective of this program is to undertake training activities aimed to the immigrant population and to provide them the necessary tools to extend their knowledge of the Spanish Language both written and spoken in the everyday activities.

The course will last 16 hours and will take place twice a week. Interested persons may obtain further information and register at the Department of Social Services of the Town of Benitachell (Mercado St, # 1).

The “Fiestas de la Rosa 2012” ( Benitachell’s Rose Festival 2012) festival started in Benitachell last Wednesday 2 May, and for the next 10 days will bring lots of activities an amusing events for everyone.

Benitachell Town Hall

The Town of El Poble Nou de Benitachell has requested a grant in the framework of Works and Services 2012 Project of the Alicante provincial office in order to obtain the funds for the installation of underground containers along in the township.

As Councilman Jorge Pascual explained in the document to be send to Alicante Provincial Government office, the Town of Benitachell ask for funds for “a project beginning for reconvert the waste bins location throughout the town”, both in downtown and  residential estates.

The government allowance for this project – according to the number of inhabitants in Benitachell- will be about is 450,000 €. This project aims to improve the image of the town’s streets and make the disposal collection easier and cheaper in the mid-term

Jesus Nazareno Festival in Jávea

The town of Javea will host this weekend the festivities in honor of Jesus of Nazareth, a festival where visitors to Javea will enjoy the beautiful flower crosses adorning the streets,  pompous processions from chapel to chapel carrying saints and offerings , and the typical fiesta including releasing of bulls in the streets, live music, theater plays and more.

This is one of the most important holiday celebrations of the town organized by the Brotherhood of Jesus of Nazareth. The festivities began on Thursday April 26 and will be on until Saturday 12 May.

Among the most important events of this festival we can mention:

Bulls in the street on 26, 27, 28 and 29 April in the Plaza del Convento and Ronda Colón.

Benitachell Town Hall

The City of Poble Nou de Benitachell took the first step to incorporate electronic management attention with the cooperation agreement signed with the town of Redován for the implementation of an electronic town management system in the upcoming months. Through this agreement, both administrations will share experiences about the functioning of the “EspúblicoGestiona” management system.

For the town Mayor and government team of Benitachell, this new system is a priority in the modernization of the town management, citizen services and incorporation of new technologies in the public service.

“EspúblicoGestiona” system will provide a technology support to improve the management and delivery of the service to the user (citizen) at the town office of from any internet connected device.

Valenciá Language meeting in Benitatxell

Over the next month the town of Poble Nou de Benitachell will host the next edition of High school Trobada  (Meeting of students from schools in the Marina Alta to promote the use of Valencià language and spread the culture of Valencia region) of Marina Alta with an expected attendance of around 10,000 schoolchildren.

This is a very important meeting for the towns of the Marina Alta and especially for Poble Nou de Benitachelll, wich will become the capital of education, language and culture in a day when the Valencia language is the protagonist. This event is aimed to help young people to better understand the Valencia

language through traditions and local culture.  24 hour of party and cultural activities can be enjoyed by the school children that will fill the streets of Benitachell in the framework of this meeting.

The schedule for the Trobada is still under development, but several workshops and sports, cultural and leisure activities are already confirmed.

First Balcony Contest in Benitachell

The Department of Culture of Benitachell is organizing the first contest of decorated balconies and facades in the district of Poble Nou de Benitachell for next May. Coinciding with the celebrations of the Rosa del Poble Nou de Benitachell Festival, the idea of this contest is aimed to all the neighbors that use to dress and take special care of their balconies with flowers and colorful bands in order to offer an opportunity to compete and foster the “fiesta” atmosphere.

This call is intended to motivate the people who usually have not only their balconies, but also their gates and portals and also encourage all residents to “dress” their homes, coinciding with the month of flowers.

The prizes of the three best decorated balconies or facades will be 100 €, 50 € and 25 €. The jury will evaluate the quality of ornamentation after a walk through the participating streets of the town from 11:30 h. on Saturday 5 May, the same day that the Rosa festival begins.

This initiative aims to make all town residents to be involved with their streets, neighborhoods and traditions, especially during the Fiestas.

The town has also indicated that the organization would much appreciate that the flowers and plants are not removed until the day of “Trobada d’Escoles in Valencià” so the town can be covered of flowers and ornaments and offer their best image to visitors.

Residents interested in participating should register at the library before 4 May.

Library of Poble Nou de Benitachell

The Youth Council is launching the Youth Information Point in the town library in order to give personalized information to young people of Poble Nou de Benitachell about topics such as housing, employment, culture and education.

This initiative comes from the need to give personalized service and better care for the young residents of Poble Nou de Benitachell. The point will be located in the Town Library.

This initiative also aims to encourage social participation, cultural and sports among young people. Attention will be given by staff of the Library, along with the support of the Benitachell Town department of Social Services, Town Legal Service, the Local Development Agency and the Department of Education and Culture.

Manolo Segarra (area councilor), explained that the goal of this program is to promote  information and “getting to be closer to young people and their needs, and  help them with all the town departments information for granting better quality of life and good future possibilities. ”

Hiking trails in Javea

On Sunday 15 April, a hiking trail activity will be organized in Javea trough Les Valls, a free path where everybody can assist with no need to register in advance or pay any fee. The only requirement for all who wish to participate in this route is to attend at 09:00 h. to the parking lot of the new cemetery of Javea.

The route takes approximately 4 hours and is considered a low difficulty trail. It is recommended to bring water, food, adequate shoes and a camera.

On Sunday 29 April everyone is invited to a new hiking trail in Javea, covering the route of Mare de Dèu dels Àngels- Cova Tallada- Torre Gerro-Molins- Santurio, Following the circular route of the PR-CV 355 path. This hiking trail guided tour has been created to learn about the natural areas of Jávea. The kick will take place at 08:00 h. at the Sanctuary of Mare de Deu dels Angels, has duration of 5 hours and is considered of high difficulty. Those wishing to participate only have to be in the place and time indicated above (no need to register beforehand) and bring water, proper footwear, camera, food, flashlight and a swimsuit.

Handcrafts Fair in Jávea this Holy Week 2012

Ecological Crops in Poble Nou de Benitachell

The Town Hall of Poble Nou de Benitatxell is leading a pioneering project consisting of ecological crops of moscatel grapes. This project aims to set differentiate the local product,  generate an incentive in the industry and at the same time, promote a socioeconomic alternative the crops that could make of the town a point of reference in the industry. The Technical University of Valencia will provide spscialised technical assistance through the investigation of autochtonal crops and the implatation of zero waste techniques.

Poble Nou de Benitatxell’s Town Hall is leading a “unique, wishful and innovative” ecological agriculture project.

It will include ecological techniques, to grow a product as autochtonal as the moscatel grape, in the frame of a larger town projecut. This will be possible thanks to the cooperation of the Technical University of Valencia (UPV), which will take part by making specific investigations of the land and will set green agricultural techniques with zero waste.

The government parties (BLOC and CCD) have decided to impulse this agricultural project based on the moscatel grape, as it will positively affect a wide scope of socioeconomic aspects such as business, tourism, economy, hospitality and food, nature and health. This means total implication of such Councils in this project.

The mayor, Josep Femenia, presented the project as a “wishful and serious alternative, based on the experience of our country people and supported by the investigations carried out by the specialists and the people at the Technical University of Valencia. New jobs will be created, and an added value will be given to the tourist and business offer of the town.”

The formalisation of the agreement between the Town Hall, the UPV and an specialist, the onsite works started last week. The director of the project from UPV, Rafael Laborda, declared he felt “fortunate” to be part of a project “promoted by a public office which believes in the futuro of it local product and there, unique when it comes to the kind of cooperative relationship between both parties.”

The implication and collaboration of the university departmeot of Agroforestal Ecosystems means having a solid technical aid on this field, with extensive experience in biological. pest control and professional interventions. This department has started working on and specific plan and will follow up onsite, while assessing the Town Hall and training country people and other involved parts of the population.

José Manuel Bisetto, the renowned specialist, will also take part in the project by coordinating it and creating an awareness campaign as week as the implantation of a community orchards plan. The engineer has proven and recognised experience in the ecological crops field in the Region of Valencia and in the rest of the country as well, because of actions of reconversion of unused plots into community ecological orchards and of environmental education programs.

Neighbor meeting an Benitachell

The team of government representatives have started the series of neighborhood meetings to be held together with the residents of the neighborhoods making up Poble Nou de Benitachell. Until April 18, the Mayor and Town Councillors will meet residents from the 43 town neighborhoods.  In the first meeting, the Mayor, Josep Femenia, presented the Residents Council  project. This Council would be a consultative body but, above all, “a tool for all residents to take active part in the town life and to create a real bond”.

The residents from the areas of Adelfas, Begonias, Camelias and Pueblo Alcassar attended this first meeting and suggested issues to bring to the table, such as the need to determine global goals so that the Council can be both effective and operative.

Likewise, the issue of communication difficulties between residents of the different neighgbourhoods because of their short-term stays was discussed in deeper detail.

Finally, the neighbours expressed their best wishes towards the creation and promotion of “this important initiative, and the implication of every resident”. In this regards, the Mayor expressed the willingness and efforts of the Town Council to achieve a solid and commited Residents Council.

The Teulada-Moraira Sea Festival and Party will take place during the weekend from 7 to 8 April, Saturday and Sunday. During this weekend, anyone attending the event will enjoy free activities such as kayaking, stand up paddle and sailing. Also, beginner courses, kayak rides, stand-up paddle and sailing, and kayak races. To this, we can add prizes and kayak exhibitions, as well as related materials, shows and music.

Most of the activities and shows will take place at Ampolla beach in Moraira. Soon, we will post the detailed schedule of the Teulada-Moraira Sea Festival and Party.

“Paisajes El Poble Nou de Benitatxell” Photography Contest

The Culture Council of Poble Nou de Benitatxell‘s Town Hall calls the I “Paisajes de El Poble Nou de Benitatxell: pasado, presente y futuro” (Poble Nou de Benitachell landscapes: past, present and future) photo contest: The contest aims to highlight the values of the landscapes in any of its spheres: nature, social aspects, culture, etc.

Participation is open to any person 18 or over, regardless of if it is an amateur or professional. Old as well as new photos are accepted.

The Council will give three prizes, for €200, €100 and €50 to the three first finalists. The jury will take into account the originality, creativity and quality of the photos.

Contest conditions:

-          The photos must be delivered in electronic format (CD, diskette, pen drive, DVD…) and they must relate to natural or cultural landscapes of the town, current or old.

-          There is not a maximum amount of photos per participant.

-          The photos cannot be retouched, manipulated or photomontages. Only basic light, contrast, saturation, sharpness or white balance adjustments will be accepted. In case of doubt, the town hall reserves the right to demand the original file or RAW.

-          Photos must be unpublished and not winners of any other contest. Any photos can be entered on competition by the authors. Any photos presented by any other person rather than the author will not be accepted.

-          Admission ends on 30 March 2012. The works must be presented at the entrance registry of Poble Nou de Benitatxell Town Hall from 09:00 h to 14:00 h, Mondays through Fridays. Other data to be registered is the curriculum of the author or contact information, brand and model of the camera, date of photo, etc.

-          The participation in the contest implies the acceptation of the conditions, which includes the addition of the photos into the photo archive of the Poble Nou de Benitatxell Town Hall. The winners and finalists of the contest will grant the rights of reproduction, use and exhibition of their photos to the Town Hall, as long as the author is named and the use has cultural purposes. The Town Hall assumes that any person shown in the photos authorises his/her appearance. The author is sole responsible for any issues related to intimacy and privacy rights.

-          All contestants accept that their work will be shared in social media (web, Facebook, Twitter, etc).

-          The jury will include regional and local experts in the photography field. The jury is free to seek advice from any specialists they consider appropriate. The Jury will reward quality, originality and creativity. The prize can be void. The decision of the jury is unappealable.

-          The jury will dismiss only photos of really bad quality or with offensive content for the people appearing in the photo.

-          Finalists or winners will be informed telephonically or by e-mail, after the jury draw up the verdict. One person can receive more than one prize.

-          Registering and taking part in the contest implies full acceptation of all the conditions.

Benitachell Town Hall

About 80 people have attended 2 informative meetings to introduce them to the Future Residents Council for Poble Nou de Benitatxell. The Mayor, Josep Femenia, was in charge of explaining the willingness of the governing parties (BLOC and CCD) to create a new consultative body with residents’ representation, incorporating every neighbourhood in town.

The first meetings held on this regard on 27 and 28 February served as an introduction, where the Mayor explained the three grounds for this new body: “first, improve the communication between the town hall and the residents; second, to promote the participation of the residents in the Council and as a result, in the town hall; third and last, detecting needs of the residents and integrating them into the town life.” Likewise, Femenia declared that the council “will also be a tool to improve services, in and out of town, to better know the needs about their functioning and space for improvement.”

The Mayor mentioned that nowadays, the town counts 5,780 inhabitants and “we all share the same space, the same problems, challenges and the need to create mechanisms to be better communicated and integrated.” Regarding this, the Mayor explained that during the last decades, the demographic and social structure of the town has changed and there is a need to suit all residents’ needs while promoting commitment among them.

The next step to create the organisation will be holding small meetings with representatives of the 43 neighbourhoods of Poble Nou de Benitatxell to go deeper into the role of the Council and to inform about the deadline to assign the representatives of each neighbourhood. The election of the representatives should be agreed between all the residents. In this regard, the Mayor requested collaborative efforts to the residents “to make of this project a successful one.” Now the “neighbourhood” meetings are expected to be held from 20 March to 18 April.

VI Spring Concerts Season in Benitachell

The VI Spring concerts Season adds a musical background to the weekends in Poble Nou de Benitachell and features the I Young Musicians Contest.

The VI edition of the Spring Concerts Season will make the perfect plan for anyone who plans to visit El Poble Nou de Benitatxell during March. The schedule organised by the Culture Council focuses, for another year, in promoting known regional musicians, but also looks to give space to new generations with the I  Young Musicians Contest to be held next 24 March. The concerts will be held each Saturday of March in the Santa María Magdalena church.

Next Saturday 17 March, the OMA —Marina alta Orchestra— will hold one of the most relevant concerts of the season at the church. This Orchestra, born as a reference of cultural cohesion in the region, will play works from Gounod and Mozart.

On Saturday 24 March, the I Young Musicians Contest organised by the Culture Council will take place.

The closing event will be featured by the Agrupación Músico Municipal Santa María Magdalena music band, offering a themed concert next 31 March at 20:30 h.

All residents and visitors are invited to enjoy a different plan and join us on this season that marks the start of the cultural calendar of events for spring. The shows are free of charge.

The Culture Council of Poble Nou de Benitachell opens the First Young Musicians Contest. This event aims to boost and acknowledge the daily effort made by the town’s music students to improve their abilities.

The recitals will take place next 24 March at 20:00 h, at the Santa Maria Magdalena church.

The contest is open to all young musicians living in town, who have specialised in an specific instrument, and with ages 10 to 16. The idea is to “motivate students to continue training and to acknowledge their everyday efforts to be better at their instruments; also, to allow them to participate in activities out of the academic context provided by the Music School. The shows will be held next 24 March at 20:00 h, at the Santa Maria Magdalena church.

With this event, young musicians will be able to show their knowledge and mastery of the instrument by playing a work of free choice, for no longer than 6 minutes. Three professional and prestigious professors will make up the jury and will grant the prize to the best performance. Antoni J. Catalá, director of the Music School, declared: “This initiative has been warmly welcome, with around 20 participants registered so far”.

Theatrical Tours in Jávea

Tour “the Harbour of Dreams” (in Spanish, el Puerto de los sueños): The history of Xàbia’s harbour dates back from centuries. This tour unveils long forgotten shipwrecks, men and women who lived from the sea, religious figures which travelled miles and miles stored in ship cellars, fantastic inventions that changed people’s lives and puzzling visitors who were charmed by the beauty of these coasts. But if there is something that really makes of this tour a different one, it is the possibility to discover all this magic from brought-to-present characters who tell us in person about the dreams of the sailors who had a link with this land and navigated these Mediterranean waters.

Tour “The Treasure of Xàbia” (in Spanish, El Tesoro de Xàbia): Three actors will bring historical, yet average characters back to life, while blending education with a dash of humour and real history.

The enactment will relate to real historical events, legends, anecdotes and relevant aspects of the everyday life of Xàbia in the past. Between acts, people will have the chance to enjoy the landscape and the rich architecture of Xàbia.

Fallas in Valencia 2012

The 2012 Fallas Festival of Valencia has already begun and mascletaes lovers have enjoyed for several days the smell of gunpowder and its harmonic noise at the Town Hall Square. The “mascletaes” are held every day from 1 to 19 March at 14:00 h. at the Town Hall Square in Valencia.

The mascletaes, fireworks and the night of the fire along with the offering and the visit to the Fallas monuments, are the most anticipated events of the Fallas Festival in Valencia and, year after year, surprise and excite all who have the opportunity to enjoy this magnificent show.

Those who visit Valencia during the Fallas festival can’t leave behind the chance to attend a mascletà (Valencian for fire crackers). We recommend arriving at the Town Hall square with one hour in advance to take good place and enjoy the atmosphere and the pre-firework show entertainment.

Another of the shows that we recommend are the firework displays taking place in the Paseo de la Alameda on 16 and 17 March at 01:00 h. and, of course, the “Nit del Foc” (Night of Fire) on 18 March at 01:30 h. This show is considered, as a whole,  a gunpowder explosion that lights up the sky of Valencia and a perfect melody that make converge the light, sound and smell of gunpowder in one memorable event.

Calpe Carnival Club has everything set to hold once again the Calpe Carnival and the Festival of Music and Dance of Calpe 2012.

Cooking workshop in Benitachell

We would like to inform our readers about the  new cooking course to be done in Poble Nou de Benitachell.

The registration period was opened on Monday 13 February 2012 and will be open until tomorrow, Friday, 17 February, at the Department of Social Services City of Benitachell.

This cooking course is intended to develop the skills in the making of tapas and other dishes, no matter whether the attendants have previous cooking experience or not.

This cooking workshop will be held during four Saturdays in March (10, 17, 24 and 31) and each session will last three hours, from 10:00 to 13:00 h.

The admission for this course is limited and the enrollment fee is € 30. The dishes prepared in this course will be based in basic ingredients such as meat, fish and vegetables. The organization of the course will provide the raw material and kitchen appliances and tools.

Tax Consultancy in Benitachell

In recent months, several homeowners in the Cumbre del Sol have come to the information and sales offices of  Grupo VAPF , asking us for help regarding a statement received from the State Agency for Tax Administration (AEAT).

That Statement informs the owners of a property on Spanish territory about the duty  to pay taxes, and depending on the status of  resident or nonresident, you must pay the Income Tax for Non-Resident (IRNR), Income Tax of Individuals (IRPF) or  Wealth Tax (IP).

Art exhibition at Jávea

Today we bring you information about the upcoming events and recreational activities in the town of Javea. Today we would like to share with you all  the services available for all the residents of Poble Nou de Benitachell at the Municipal Library.

The Library of Poble Nou de Benitachell offers a complete range of services related to the access to books in both consultation and renting mode. If you want a rent a book (including novels and other publications), you can do so and  enjoy it at home, to make this service even more convenient, the library has an online catalog available through the Internet updated in real time at

The library offers its users a free Internet access as well as office suite (word, excel, image editor) service. On the ground floor of the library there are 11 computers and there are two more on the first floor, all with Internet access. Besides that, all the place has free Wi Fi service open for laptops and smartphones of everyone.

To use the services offered by the library of Poble Nou de Benitachell is necessary to have a Library ID. If you still don’t have yours, ask the library staff for an aplication form.

San Antonio Festival in Benitachell

Today Sunday 5 February, Poble Nou de Benitachell will celebrate the Festival in honor of San Antonio Abad, patron saint of animals.

The Penya of Cavallistes i Carreters (horse and equestrian aficionado club) of Poble Nou de Benitachell, invites all residents of the town and surroundings to participate in a horse meeting in the morning for the warm up of the traditional parade of animals. The Association has committed to convert the traditional blessing of animals of the day of San Antonio Abad into a celebration, so all who want to take their pets to the street and have fun all day long can do so in a festivity environment.

The program will begin at 9.30 h. when a cavalry meeting will take place at José Antonio Street for a lunch courtesy of the Penya of Cavallistes i carreters. At 12:00 h., the parade will start to go through several streets of the town with the participation of all residents and their pets who wish to part of it. The parade, which will feature the music of local drummers and flute players, will end up in the Market Place where the blessing of the animals will be done.

Today we would like to share some of the services available for the use of all residents of Poble Nou de Benitachell at the Municipal Library.

The Library of Poble Nou de Benitachell offers –besides the expectable service of book consultation- a book renting service, so you don’t have to buy the book (even novels and various fictions). In order to make this service even more convenient , the library has an online catalog available through Internet access, so you can see the catalog of books available in the library and comfortably choose what you want to read.

The library offers to its users a free Internet access as well as office suite availability in all the computers. There are 11 computers at the IT room at Library’s ground floor and 2 more on the first floor, all with Internet access, besides the free 8 Mbps broadband Wi-Fi (hotspot) to use the Internet from laptops and smartphones of all visitors.

If you want to use the services offered by the library of Poble Nou de Benitachell is necessary to have a Library ID that you can get by asking the library staff.

Active the Mind Workshop

Senior residents of Poble Nou de Benitachell are invited next Tuesday 24 January to attend to “Active the Mind”, a workshop aimed to exercises the memory, mental ability and creativity in order to improve the life quality in the retirement years.

The workshop is aimed at people over 65 years old who want to do mental exercise and stimulate creative abilities for the elderly years. In this way, the Department of Social Services promotes the mental agility, critical thinking, decision-making and imagination in a part of the life in which people tend to have less activity in this regard.

This 9 hours’ workshop will be held in the computer room of the Municipal Library on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 to 12:00 h. until Thursday,9  February. Another workshop (with the same structure) will take place from 14 February to1 March. Those interested in being part of this second group should contact the Department of Social Services.

Valencia Fashion Week

From 15 to18 February 2012, the fashion will be the protagonist in Valencia with 4 days full of catwalk fashion shows, showrooms and presentations of Valencian, national and international designers that will gather in the city to participate in the XII edition of Valencia Fashion Week (VFW).

This year, the events will take place at the Agora building of the City of Arts and Sciences, where the catwalk will be installed along with the areas where you can enjoy of Zona D, Zona OFF, Valencia Culture Place, Dedal Showroom, charity fashion show and other events.

VFW is considered the second most important fashion event in Spain (after Cibeles Fashion Show) in terms of media coverage, number of attendees and participating designers. Relxation and Meditation Workshop at Benitatxell

Tomorrow, Saturday 28 January, 2012, the culture Department of Poble Nou de Benitachell is organizing a relaxation and meditation workshop offered free of charge to all the residents of the town regardless of age. People interested in participating just have to show up at the Social Center at 10:00 h. The workshop will be held from 10:00 to 13:00 h.

The session will be on charge of a qualified instructor who will lead participants through different activities, techniques and games aimed to be used in daily life. It is recommended that participants wear comfortable clothes, socks, foulard (bandana), and also bring a pillow and a blanket. Participants do not require any previous experience to be part of this activity.

"¿Hablamos?" Language Exchange Programm

The introductory briefing of the”¿Hablamos?” (Shall we talk?) program gathered 32 people who attended   last Friday 13 January to Benitachell’s Public Library  to get information about participating in the project of linguistic exchange.

This language exchange program is totally free of charge thanks to the hard  work of local volunteers who selflessly are willing to start a conversational practice schedule that will be held individually and  in flexible dates and time.

Ana Gilabert -Benitachell’s Councilor for Education- stated at the introductory briefing that the main goal of the program is to improve the language of the participant’s choice   and stimulate the social interaction of community members from different ethnical backgrounds.

Attendees volunteered in teaching Valencian, Spanish, English, French and German language, and once collected the enrolled people contact details, the Adult Teaching Centre will organize the groups and contact people registered to start the lessons.

Those who could not attend the first meeting and are interested in participating in this program still are on time to enroll in the Adult Teaching Centre offices.

La Boheme in Teulada-Moraira

We gladly invite you to enjoy one of the masterpieces of the Classic Operas: La Boheme. The residents of the Costa Blanca North will enjoy a night of the finest music at only few miles from home, specifically in the Teulada-Moraira Auditorium. La Boheme will be performed in its original language (Italian)  by Lírica Ópera 2001 Company, which was founded in 1991 in Paris, and ever since has superbly offered  the masterpieces of Giacomo Puccini . This work reflects the life of bohemians in the first half of the nineteenth century in Paris, the daily struggle for survival, love, poverty, sacrifice and death.

In this Opera, some 110 people (including 45 musicians from Bulgaria and 30 international singers) including the soprano Tsvetana Bandalovsky, will be under the direction of Martin Mazik and stage director Roberta Mattelli.

"Hablamos ?" Language training

We would like to share the new program launched by the City of Poble Nou de Benitachell. “¿Hablamos?” (“Shall we talk?”)  is a language exchange program aimed to gather residents interested in in improving their proficiency in several languages.

The presentation of the project was last Friday 13 January at 18:30 h. at the Town Library, however those interested in enrolling may still do so at the Adult Education Center.

“¿Hablamos?” works as a different languages speakers meeting point  ​​where they can register to find people proficient or native in the language they want to learn, but in exchange they have also to spend time speaking with people interested in practice their language, so people can learn and pay it forward teaching others.

The Adult Education Center will take the organizational and administrative responsibility of this program and will contact and form groups of participants as soon as they find a minimum amount of people to start.

Hiking trails in Javea

In this post we advance the timetable we have so far for this newly opened 2012 in outdoors sports and hiking trails organized by town of Jávea. These routes allow us to enjoy the wonderful weather, work out in the nature and visit the outskirts of the town of Jávea.

Montgo Summit Trail (PR-CV 355).

Those interested in perform this route can do so on Sunday 18 March, 2012, Sunday 22 June and December 9. Departure is scheduled at 09:00 h.from the parking lot of the shooting range. The trail takes about 5 hours to be completed and the difficulty is medium-high.

Xàbia Port-San Antonio cape- Recreation Area -Sanctuary-Mills-Xàbia Port

Dates: 1 April, 8 July and 4 November. The departure will be at 09:00 h. from the parking lot of the Port fish market. The duration of the route is 3.5 hours and the difficulty is low.

Les Valls

The route begins at 09:00 h. from the parking lot of the new cemetery, with duration of 4 hours and low difficulty. Route will take place on Sunday 15 April, 2012.

Sanctuary- M ª De Deu Dels Angels -Cova Tallada-Gerro Tower-Mills-Sanctuary (PR-CV 355)

This hiking trip departs at 8:00 h. from the Sanctuary. The route has duration of 5 hours and is considered of high difficulty. Dates: Sunday 29 April, Sunday 12 August and Sunday 7 October.

Cala-Granadella –Castillo-Teuleria Variant (PR-CV-354)

The guided trip departs at 09:00 h. from the Cala Granadella parking and lasts 3 hours to be completed. The difficulty is medium. This route will take place on Sunday 27 May.

Fom Barraca to Cap Prim (SL-CV97 + SL-CV 98),

The trail starts at 9:00 h. from the parking lot of the Cala Barraca. The route has duration of 3 hours and the difficulty is low. Date: Sunday 10 June.

Photographic Exhibition in Jávea

The Xàbia Photographic Association (www.afxabia.com) and the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum Soler Blasco of Xàbia have organized a charity exhibition aimed to raise money to help in the purchase and training of an assistance dog for an autistic child of the town.

The members of XàbiaPhotographic Association have selflessly donated their photographs to be displayed at a museum Soler Blasco until 21 January, 2012. People interested in help for this cause can purchase any photographs for € 50.

The Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum Soler Blasco of Xàbia is located at Primicias Street # 6, and  is open from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 20:00 h, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays open only in the morning . The museum is closed on Mondays.

The Three Wise Men visit Benitachell

After the visit that Santa Claus made to Poble Nou de Benitachell on 23 December, the town will have another very special visit on Thursday 5 January 2012: Their Majesties the Kings of the East.

It is expected that their Majesties the Kings of the East. (Also known as The Three Wise Men) arrive at the Poble Nou de Benitachell around 17:30 h. During his visit, Their Majesties have planned a parade from Alicante Avenue to City Hall. Along with the Three Wise Men, the town council has also invited several Disney characters as special guests and in that way make a memorable day for every child in town.

After visiting the Town Hall, Their Majesties will continue its journey to the church, where after worship the baby Jesus, they will give away presents to all children in the Benitachell.

Parents whose children have written the letter to Their Majesties the Kings of the East, (and will receive their gifts in the Church of Poble Nou de Benitachell), have to attend on 2, 3 and 4 January to the town’s Social Centre to make the necessary arrangements.

- Crimen Perfecto —The perfect crime— is the first of many theatre plays to take place in the Auditorium in 2012. It will be staged on 21 January and will feature famous Spanish actors and actresses such as Jorge Sanz, Maria Castro, Pablo Puyol, Antonio Albella and José Sánchez-Orosa. Directed by Víctor Conde. In Spanish. This play pays homage to Alfred Hitchcock and his sibylline stories: spying on others’ lives, wishing others’ women, exploring extreme situations and exposing the hard and frustrating art of killing. All sums up on a splendid display of theatrical and cinematographic languages coexisting on an only stage.

The Three Wise Men

Once again, the Three Wise Men are about to arrive in Teulada-Moraira with loads of toys, gifts, hopes and peace. Check below the details about the arrival of the emissaries first and then the Wise Men to Teulada-Moraira so we all can go to see them coming.

On Friday 30 December at 17:00 h the royal emissaries will come to Moraira via El Portet Avenue to the Church Square, which will gather the letters of all attendees in front of the Christmas tree. After the visit of the royal emissaries, the association of Moraira Housewives will sell chocolate and sweets at reasonable prices. After visiting Moraira, the royal emissaries will go to Teulada’s Town Council square at 18:00 hours, where the will collect letters from children in town.

On Thursday, 5 January, the Three Wise Men will arrive to l’Ampolla beach of Moraira at 17:00 hours and after that (by 18:00 h) they will go to Teulada. After a parade around the town, they will hand the gifts to all the children.

In this Holidays season we want to thank you for the trust placed in us during this year, when we reached important milestones always having in mind the innovation and excellent service to our customers.

The opening hours GrupoVAPF’s sales and information offices will change for this holidays season, so for the next couple of weeks, the schedule of the two offices in Cumbre del Sol will be as follow:

North Sales and Information Office atCumbre del Sol(access thorough Benitachell to Cumbre del Sol urbanization road) will be open Monday to Friday from 09:15 to 13:30 and 14:30 to 18:00 h; Saturdays from 10:00 to 13:30 and 14:30 to 17:30 h. The office will remain closed on 24, 25 and 31 December and on 1, 6 and 9 January, 2012.

South Sales and Information Office at Cumbre del Sol(Poble Nou de Benitachell), located in the Moraira-Benitachell road will open Monday to Friday from 10:15 to 19:00 h, Saturdays from 10:00 to 13:30 and 14:30 to 17:30 h and Sundays and holidays (December 24 and January 6) from 11:00 to 14:00 hour. The office will be closed on 25 and 31 December and 1 January 2012.

Today we want to share with you the schedule of events prepared for the months of December 2011 and January 2012 at the Auditorium of Teulada-Moraira, so you may  know all the cultural and entertainment options available in town.

Today Saturday 10 December 10 at 19:00 h you are invited to enjoy a piano concert performed by Daniel Pino, a Spanish pianist of international success. The admission fee is 10 €.

On Sunday 18 December, the  musical play Pinocchio, will amuse audiences for all ages, especially for children. This show was Max Awards finalist in 2011.

On Monday 26 December you can attend to the most anticipated show of this season: the Moscow Ballet will  perform Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker. Due to demand, two performances are scheduled at 19:00 and 22:00 hours. All advance tickets are all sold and there are only tickets on sale at the box office the day of the show. The entry fee is € 25.

On Friday 6 January, Felicitas Prikope and his orchestra of ten musicians will perform the Epiphany Concert , with pieces by Suppe, Mozart, Falla, Jimenez, Bizet and Johann Strauss. The concert is scheduled at 19:00 hours and the admission price is 12 €.

“Temps D’Escultures” sculptures exhibition by Quico Torres will be on the Auditorium Exhibition Hall until 25 April.

Also, in the Espai The Senieta of Moraira, tomorrow will take place at 19:00 h the Christmas concert of Felicitas Prikope , introducing the young tenor Jorge Navarro Colorado performing a repertoire of songs in German, French, Latin, Spanish and Catalan language. Admission fee: € 10.

On Thursday 15 December at 18:30 h, the English Choral will perform a Christmas Charity Concert. Donation : € 5.

The Christmas Market of Teuladahas a long tradition of offering  typical  products of the region as “pastissets of moniato” (Sweet Potato Cakes),  home-made sausages and local products offered by Sant Vicent Ferrer Agricultural Cooperative of Teulada like sweet wine, raisins and vermouth.

Fiestas in Teulada

The Fiestas in Teulada will be held on 25, 26 and 27 November in honor of Santa Catalina Martyr (St. Catherine), patron saint of the town, The festival is organized by the Fiesta committee of San Vicente Ferrer  and with the collaboration of Teulada Town.

The celebrations will begin on Friday 25 November with a fellowship dinner at 21:00 hours. All interested in attending can make a reservation by calling 682 821 243. After dinner (around 23:30 hours) there will be a “Remember party ” in TeuladaTown Hall Square.

On Saturday 26 November will take place the “Mig any de quintades”,a celebration gor all the young boys and girs that have reach 18 years old this year. The event will start at 10:00 h, food will be offered at 14:00 and music party will kick off at 16:30.

Sunday 27 November: Day in honor of Santa Catalina, with the celebration of a Mass sung by the Teuladina choir at 12:00. Later, at 18:00 hours there will be a procession in honor of the Patron Saint of Teulada.

Rock of Ifach, Calpe. Free tours

 Today we are glad to report about a new leisurely alternative in Costa Blanca: The guided tours to the Rock of Ifach —Peñón de Ifach— in Calpe. These tours are held as part of the program called ¿Qué diría Ifach si pudiera hablar? (a loose translation would be “what would the Rock of Ifach say if it could speak?), With walks through the environmental and cultural heritage which is the Rock of Ifach Nature Park.

The next visits are scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday 16^th November, 30th November and 14th December 2011. These will take place at 10:00 h mornings and the starting point is the Nature Park Info Office, located on 44 Ejércitos Españoles Avenue.

 The activity takes about 2:30 hours to complete and the path is considered to be of low difficulty. It ends at the tunnel.

It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and clothing, appropriate for this time of the year and for hiking. This activity is recommended for people over 12.

Ondara Fair

Today, Saturday 12 November will kick-off the Ondara Fair 2011, best known as the “Ondar’as Fair of Fairs 2011”.

This fair includes several exhibitions dedicated to different topics, as Cocentaina Fair did last month: trade show, attractions, food fair, trade fair, medieval market, market animals and baroque fair. All the shows will take place on Saturdays and Sundays, as toy can see below:

12 and 13 November: Ondara fair will gather loads of locals and tourists attracted by the medieval fair, the trade fair, road shows and tapas degustation.

Christmas School in Benitachell

During the next Christmas the Town of Poble Nou de Benitachell will open “Christmas School”, so working parents can leave their children in a nice environment with funny activities under the qualified personnel supervision during the holiday’s school break.

Christmas School will be open from 27 to 30 December, 2011 and from 2 to 4 January from 09:00 to 13:00 h. This activity is aimed for children from 3 to 12 years old and the price for it is just 25 € with lunch included.

This initiative of the government team of Poble Nou de Benitachell, is aimed to help parents to reconcile work and family life. The Christmas School is both an opportunity for children to socialize, play and have fun with other kids and an important help for parents that can’t alter their work schedule during Christmas school holidays.

Trekking competition at Vall del Pop

Next December’s bank holiday, La Vall del Pop will be seat of be two competitions for lovers of mountain sports, hiking and trekking:

6 December: “II Endurance BTT race  2011″

8 December: “I Mountain hiking and trekking competition 2011″

The II Endurance BTT race  2011 will consist in a two 24 Km laps run, making a 48 Km long total race length, while the I Mountain hiking and trekking competition will consist of just one long circuit (24 km) for the low impact walk competition and a  short circuit (15 Km) for the mountain trekking mode. All competitors in all modes will have to meet the conditions of marking, signage and security that the organization has set for this purpose. In addition, the

course will have 2 aid stations and space to rest and recover without hindering the progress of other athletes. Testing will begin both days at 09:00 h.

Both races will be run through walking paths, forest tracks and trails inside the town limits of Castell de Castells. Tests are open to the participation of all athletes in male and female categories from 16 years old.

The Creama (Marina Alta consortium for the development of the economy) Food Handling Course in Poble Nou de Benitachell.

This course is aimed at all professionals who handle food in their work, either at the stage of preparation, fabrication, processing, manufacturing, packaging, storage, transportation, distribution, sale, supply and / or service and who require to certify their Health and Safety training to carry out food handling with the maximum guarantees, preventing contamination and the potential occurrence of foodborne illness.

A course that is accessible by both professionals, or those planning to work in sectors such as hospitality (bars, restaurants, catering), school cafeterias, hospitals, businesses large and small bakeries and pastry shops, dairy and meat sector.

The registration period is open until Friday, 4 November and the course will be held on 7 or 11 November (just one of these days) and lasts approximately four hours. Halloween in Costa Blanca

Halloween is a holiday celebrated in the All Saints day’s eve in places like Canada, U.S., Ireland and the UK. This celebration has increased its popularity in towns along the Costa Blanca North, either by the great expansive force that is American culture, or the large number of expats Britons who have chosen this sunny land to establish their residence, but wish to maintain and share their customs and festivities.

Lions Club Teulada-Moraira will organize a Halloween Party for the children on Monday 31 October 31 at 18:00 h. in the Moraira´s Church Square. In this party the kids will enjoy an afternoon with games, activities, face painting, bouncy castle and prizes for best costumes.

The same night, Fiestas Commission of San Vicente Ferrer of Teulada will celebrate Halloween 2011 with a party (this one for grown-ups) organized in Saxo Disco Club.

In Jávea the shops of the Old Town have organized a Halloween special evening starting at 18:00 h. with costumes contest for children and adults and many surprises.

All Saints Fair Denia

This week we propose you to enjoy a unique event in Valencia Region: the All Saints Fair of Cocentaina 2011 which this year celebrates its 665^th edition. The main difference  with other All Saints Fairs is that in in this one, visitors can seemore than 400 stands related to farm and livestock, including cattle auctions and machinery exhibition. This fair also brings an open air market with activities like medieval handcrafts, Arabic souk and typical Spanish cuisine stalls.

Benitachell Town Hall

The City of Poble Nou de Benitachell has made ​​available to all residents of the town a new interpretation and translation service, in order to meet the needs of all residents and ease the language barrier, reaching in this way a better understanding of the needs of the people.

The translation and interpretation service in English will be available on Mondays and Wednesdays, a service in German and French will be provided on Tuesday and Thursday.

This is for sure great news for all residents of the Cumbre del Sol, which will be the biggest benefited of this new service which will undoubtedly serve to ensure proper communication in administrative issues. In this first phase of the service, hours of translation and interpretation will be available from 9:30 to 13:30 h.

Senior Citizens in Christmas

It is open the enrollment period for those residents of Poble Nou de Benitachell, who wish to participate in the program “Do not be alone at Christmas”, an initiative undertaken by the Department of Social Services and Benitachell Department of Social Welfare, aimed to bring company to all those residents who are going to spend Christmas season alone.

All residents of Poble Nou de Benitachell, over 65 years old and who live alone are eligible for this program.

Those interested may register for being part of this program until 3 November at the Department of Social Services offices of Benitachell.

The program is available (besides for people over 65 years old) for pensioners, disable citizens and 60+ years old widows. Interested persons should not suffer any behavior disorder, have to fend for themselves to perform daily activities and live alone. The aim of this social program is to gather people in the same situation for spend Christmas holidays and some quality time from 23 to 27 December.

For more information about the program, interested residents should go to Department of Social Services to proceed with the application.

All Saints Fair Denia

Those who have grown up in one of the municipalities of Marina Alta, remember fondly the Fair of All Saints in Denia, wich always has been a fun fair organized in Denia to celebrate the Catholic traditional day after Halloween night.

This year the little ones will enjoy this endearing show from 21 October to 13 November 2011, in the parking Torrecremada in Denia (next to the Court House).

This year there will be 24 attractions for kids and 12 for grownups, the tickets will cost € 3 for regular attractions and 4 € for the special ones.

The best days to visit the Fair with children are 27 October and 3, 8, and 10 November, as are children’s discount days and rides will costs only 1.5 €. Among the new attractions for this year features the “Mountain of Terror”.

Another new feature of for this year  is the installation of a stage at the entrance of the fair where local groups such as Grupo Casa Castilla la Mancha, Casa de Andalucía and Babylon will perform to attract more people to the fair.

The fair will be open daily from 17:30 to 23:00, and Sundays and 1 November will be also open in the morning from 11:00 to 15:00 h. Those of you planning to visit the fair from outside Denia are advised to travel by train to the town since the parking space is limited.

Moraig Beach

The government team of the City of Poble Nou de Benitachell has asked the State Council of Coasts a bus to provide both residents and visitors of the municipality, access to the Cala Moraig.

This request is accompanied by several reports that highlight the need for a bus to access the Cala Moraig, the main tourist attraction of Poble Nou de Benitachell.

The report explains that access to the cove is every year more difficult, since the number of available parking spaces has been reduced considerably due to the works carried out by the same State Council of Coasts in 2010, leaving only about 30 parking spaces in the access area to the cove.

This report is supported by a dossier made by the Tourism Council which states that the visitor’s amount to the cove reaches the 98,000 tourists per year, concentrated mainly in the summer months. Also a report made by the local police indicates the problems of access and lack of parking in the area are evident and have worsened since 2009, when a storm damaged the car park. The police department also points out that this request will alleviate traffic access to the Cove, reducing the environmental impact improving road safety.

Restaurant La Cumbre

Last Saturday, 17 September, 2011, El Mundo newspaper reviewed in the gastronomic column La Cumbre restaurant, located on the Cumbre del Sol in Poble Nou de Benitachell. The article was entitled “Un paraíso en La Cumbre” (A paradise in the summit), and describes how “La Cumbre restaurant is a privilege because of its location and for being able to offer the two things at once: feed the soul and the body” in words of Antonio Rodríguez Martín, president of the Cultural Association of Gourmet Food Writers and Critics, an eminent auteur cuisine expert.

In his article, Antonio Rodríguez Martín praises the good work of  Eloy Martínez and his wife Celia (owners of the restaurant) and their  kindness, professionalism and of course the delicacies made in their kitchen as the micuit of duck with honey bread, apple and parmesan lollipop , fried camembert with cranberry marmalade , tapas of blue  tuna with tomato jam and black olives and  the flagship course of the house:   Chateaubriand La Cumbre with red wine.

Mr. Rodriguez began his article describing the wonders of the surroundings of the restaurant, its lounges and pool terrace overlooking the Costa Blanca’s Mediterranean Sea, where a delicious food is more enjoyable, delicious and memorable with Ibiza Island rising in the far horizon, adding that the situation is a good value to the restoration and quality of service, and a supplement that can make the difference between this restaurant and others.

Drug use prevention Lecture

Poble Nou de Benitachell will host lectures about prevention of drug addiction among the youth. This cycle of four lectures has been organized by the Department of Social Services of the Town of Benitachell beginning on past Thursday 29 September and will be followed with new lectures that will be held on 27 October, 24 November and 15 December at 19:00 h at the Town’s Community Center.

The lectures will be given by a specialist that will open a participatory round for attendees who will be allowed to submit questions or experiences about drugs use. Also, professionals from the department of Social Services will be available to assist to all those interested in having help in any related aspect.

These seminars are developed around teenage as a time of crisis, assertive communication, problem solving, attention and respect needs, child behavior and limits situations and its consequences. The meetings will last approximately one hour and are open to all the community.

Volvo Ocean Race 2011

The Race Village of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012 will open at the port of Alicante on 14 October, the same day that will begin three busy weeks of activities in Alicante in the framework of the regattas and races of the Stage 1 of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012 that will connect Alicante to the South African port of Cape Town in a route of 6,500 nautical miles (12,038 kilometers) on 5 November 2011.

The Race Village will be a sort of amusement park with free access to the dock of the port of Alicante, which will remain open for three weeks until 5 November and will have a comprehensive schedule by the sea for all who enjoy the sailing sports.

Among the activities planned we can highlights the museum of the Volvo Ocean Race, which will have one permanent exhibition and a temporary one, where you can  observe the work in the control room of the race where the fleet is monitored 24 hours a day until the arrival to Galway (Ireland) next July 2012.

In addition, the visitors can get close to the Volvo Open 70 race boats -the fastest single hull sailing boats in the world- and even compare them with the boats of past editions, set out in the harbor. Visitors can experience the atmosphere of race, mingle with the crews and see how they get ready for competition.

Alicante Council

On 23 September, 2011 Official Gazette of the Province of Alicante number 183 contained an edict of the City Council regarding the Benitachell Municipal Emergency Planning, which states that will be presented at the City hall of Benitachell until Sunday 9 October. Once the public exhibition ends, the plan has to be approved by the municipal corporation.

The Municipal Territorial Emergency Plan contains a set of measures and actions that the City of Benitachell with the Provincial Council of Alicante, have developed for a coordinated management of emergencies that may occur in the municipality.

This model intends to coordinate actions among different public and private public entities involved in handling emergencies that may occur in the municipality and the Community.

Tapas tasting in Jávea

The 5th Edition of “Tapeo” Tapas tasting in Jávea will take place in the historic old town of Jávea in the Plaça de la Constitució (market square) on the weekend of 1 and 2 October.

The idea of making a Tapas route was undertaken by the Association of Merchants and Businessmen of Xàbia Historic Center with the sponsorship of the Economy Council and Jávea Town for the fifth consecutive year of good work, superb dishes and the nicest service.

It is estimated that 12,000 people from all nationalities who lives in the region, enjoyed the “Tapeo” weekend last year amidst a great atmosphere, performances and of course the local cuisine.

The venue of the event will be the Plaza de la Constitution, which has new improvements for this tapeo weekend as more seats spaces, underground parking and mobile toilets.
