Library of Poble Nou de Benitachell

Today we would like to share some of the services available for the use of all residents of Poble Nou de Benitachell at the Municipal Library.

The Library of Poble Nou de Benitachell offers –besides the expectable service of book consultation- a book renting service, so you don’t have to buy the book (even novels and various fictions). In order to make this service even more convenient , the library has an online catalog available through Internet access, so you can see the catalog of books available in the library and comfortably choose what you want to read.

The library offers to its users a free Internet access as well as office suite availability in all the computers. There are 11 computers at the IT room at Library’s ground floor and 2 more on the first floor, all with Internet access, besides the free 8 Mbps broadband Wi-Fi (hotspot) to use the Internet from laptops and smartphones of all visitors.

If you want to use the services offered by the library of Poble Nou de Benitachell is necessary to have a Library ID that you can get by asking the library staff.

Active the Mind Workshop

Senior residents of Poble Nou de Benitachell are invited next Tuesday 24 January to attend to “Active the Mind”, a workshop aimed to exercises the memory, mental ability and creativity in order to improve the life quality in the retirement years.

The workshop is aimed at people over 65 years old who want to do mental exercise and stimulate creative abilities for the elderly years. In this way, the Department of Social Services promotes the mental agility, critical thinking, decision-making and imagination in a part of the life in which people tend to have less activity in this regard.

This 9 hours’ workshop will be held in the computer room of the Municipal Library on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 to 12:00 h. until Thursday,9  February. Another workshop (with the same structure) will take place from 14 February to1 March. Those interested in being part of this second group should contact the Department of Social Services.

Valencia Fashion Week

From 15 to18 February 2012, the fashion will be the protagonist in Valencia with 4 days full of catwalk fashion shows, showrooms and presentations of Valencian, national and international designers that will gather in the city to participate in the XII edition of Valencia Fashion Week (VFW).

This year, the events will take place at the Agora building of the City of Arts and Sciences, where the catwalk will be installed along with the areas where you can enjoy of Zona D, Zona OFF, Valencia Culture Place, Dedal Showroom, charity fashion show and other events.

VFW is considered the second most important fashion event in Spain (after Cibeles Fashion Show) in terms of media coverage, number of attendees and participating designers. This year, we will enjoy the creations of Virtudes Langa en piel, Gabriel Seguí, Higinio Mateu, Rudio Kids, Hortensia Maeso, Amparo Chordá, Antonio García, Jaime Piqué, Ion Fiz, Álex Vidal, Siglo Cero, Encarnis Tomero, Miguel Vizcaíno, Assad Awad, Eugenio Loarce, Moisés Castañeira, Bibian Blue, Juanma by El Cuco, Selim de Somavilla, Georgina Vendrell, VRL.Paco Varela y Lucia, Guillermo del Mar, Siemprevivas, Antonio Posadas and Eva Iszoro.

The fashion show will also have an special side event with a series of activities at Fashion Square (Pinazos Square, opposite to El Corte Ingles department store).

Relxation and Meditation Workshop at Benitatxell

Tomorrow, Saturday 28 January, 2012, the culture Department of Poble Nou de Benitachell is organizing a relaxation and meditation workshop offered free of charge to all the residents of the town regardless of age. People interested in participating just have to show up at the Social Center at 10:00 h. The workshop will be held from 10:00 to 13:00 h.

The session will be on charge of a qualified instructor who will lead participants through different activities, techniques and games aimed to be used in daily life. It is recommended that participants wear comfortable clothes, socks, foulard (bandana), and also bring a pillow and a blanket. Participants do not require any previous experience to be part of this activity.

"¿Hablamos?" Language Exchange Programm

The introductory briefing of the”¿Hablamos?” (Shall we talk?) program gathered 32 people who attended   last Friday 13 January to Benitachell’s Public Library  to get information about participating in the project of linguistic exchange.

This language exchange program is totally free of charge thanks to the hard  work of local volunteers who selflessly are willing to start a conversational practice schedule that will be held individually and  in flexible dates and time.

Ana Gilabert -Benitachell’s Councilor for Education- stated at the introductory briefing that the main goal of the program is to improve the language of the participant’s choice   and stimulate the social interaction of community members from different ethnical backgrounds.

Attendees volunteered in teaching Valencian, Spanish, English, French and German language, and once collected the enrolled people contact details, the Adult Teaching Centre will organize the groups and contact people registered to start the lessons.

Those who could not attend the first meeting and are interested in participating in this program still are on time to enroll in the Adult Teaching Centre offices.

La Boheme in Teulada-Moraira

We gladly invite you to enjoy one of the masterpieces of the Classic Operas: La Boheme. The residents of the Costa Blanca North will enjoy a night of the finest music at only few miles from home, specifically in the Teulada-Moraira Auditorium. The performances will take place on next Saturday, 11 February (20:00 h.) and on Sunday 12 February (at 19:00 h.).

La Boheme will be performed in its original language (Italian)  by Lírica Ópera 2001 Company, which was founded in 1991 in Paris, and ever since has superbly offered  the masterpieces of Giacomo Puccini . This work reflects the life of bohemians in the first half of the nineteenth century in Paris, the daily struggle for survival, love, poverty, sacrifice and death.

In this Opera, some 110 people (including 45 musicians from Bulgaria and 30 international singers) including the soprano Tsvetana Bandalovsky, will be under the direction of Martin Mazik and stage director Roberta Mattelli.

"Hablamos ?" Language training

We would like to share the new program launched by the City of Poble Nou de Benitachell. “¿Hablamos?” (“Shall we talk?”)  is a language exchange program aimed to gather residents interested in in improving their proficiency in several languages.

The presentation of the project was last Friday 13 January at 18:30 h. at the Town Library, however those interested in enrolling may still do so at the Adult Education Center.

“¿Hablamos?” works as a different languages speakers meeting point  ​​where they can register to find people proficient or native in the language they want to learn, but in exchange they have also to spend time speaking with people interested in practice their language, so people can learn and pay it forward teaching others.

The Adult Education Center will take the organizational and administrative responsibility of this program and will contact and form groups of participants as soon as they find a minimum amount of people to start.

Hiking trails in Javea

In this post we advance the timetable we have so far for this newly opened 2012 in outdoors sports and hiking trails organized by town of Jávea. These routes allow us to enjoy the wonderful weather, work out in the nature and visit the outskirts of the town of Jávea.

Montgo Summit Trail (PR-CV 355).

Those interested in perform this route can do so on Sunday 18 March, 2012, Sunday 22 June and December 9. Departure is scheduled at 09:00 h.from the parking lot of the shooting range. The trail takes about 5 hours to be completed and the difficulty is medium-high.

Xàbia Port-San Antonio cape- Recreation Area -Sanctuary-Mills-Xàbia Port

Dates: 1 April, 8 July and 4 November. The departure will be at 09:00 h. from the parking lot of the Port fish market. The duration of the route is 3.5 hours and the difficulty is low.

Les Valls

The route begins at 09:00 h. from the parking lot of the new cemetery, with duration of 4 hours and low difficulty. Route will take place on Sunday 15 April, 2012.

Sanctuary- M ª De Deu Dels Angels -Cova Tallada-Gerro Tower-Mills-Sanctuary (PR-CV 355)

This hiking trip departs at 8:00 h. from the Sanctuary. The route has duration of 5 hours and is considered of high difficulty. Dates: Sunday 29 April, Sunday 12 August and Sunday 7 October.

Cala-Granadella –Castillo-Teuleria Variant (PR-CV-354)

The guided trip departs at 09:00 h. from the Cala Granadella parking and lasts 3 hours to be completed. The difficulty is medium. This route will take place on Sunday 27 May.

Fom Barraca to Cap Prim (SL-CV97 + SL-CV 98),

The trail starts at 9:00 h. from the parking lot of the Cala Barraca. The route has duration of 3 hours and the difficulty is low. Date: Sunday 10 June.

Photographic Exhibition in Jávea

The Xàbia Photographic Association (www.afxabia.com) and the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum Soler Blasco of Xàbia have organized a charity exhibition aimed to raise money to help in the purchase and training of an assistance dog for an autistic child of the town.

The members of XàbiaPhotographic Association have selflessly donated their photographs to be displayed at a museum Soler Blasco until 21 January, 2012. People interested in help for this cause can purchase any photographs for € 50.

The Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum Soler Blasco of Xàbia is located at Primicias Street # 6, and  is open from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 20:00 h, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays open only in the morning . The museum is closed on Mondays.

The Three Wise Men visit Benitachell

After the visit that Santa Claus made to Poble Nou de Benitachell on 23 December, the town will have another very special visit on Thursday 5 January 2012: Their Majesties the Kings of the East.

It is expected that their Majesties the Kings of the East. (Also known as The Three Wise Men) arrive at the Poble Nou de Benitachell around 17:30 h. During his visit, Their Majesties have planned a parade from Alicante Avenue to City Hall. Along with the Three Wise Men, the town council has also invited several Disney characters as special guests and in that way make a memorable day for every child in town.

After visiting the Town Hall, Their Majesties will continue its journey to the church, where after worship the baby Jesus, they will give away presents to all children in the Benitachell.

Parents whose children have written the letter to Their Majesties the Kings of the East, (and will receive their gifts in the Church of Poble Nou de Benitachell), have to attend on 2, 3 and 4 January to the town’s Social Centre to make the necessary arrangements.

-OMA —Marina Alta Orchestra— opens the Season of Chamber Music (part I) on 15 January 2012. Admission costs 12 EUR. Those looking to attend more concerts of this chamber music season can buy combi tickets. OMA will play works from Grieg, Bartók, Finzi and Holst.

- Crimen Perfecto —The perfect crime— is the first of many theatre plays to take place in the Auditorium in 2012. It will be staged on 21 January and will feature famous Spanish actors and actresses such as Jorge Sanz, Maria Castro, Pablo Puyol, Antonio Albella and José Sánchez-Orosa. Directed by Víctor Conde. In Spanish. This play pays homage to Alfred Hitchcock and his sibylline stories: spying on others’ lives, wishing others’ women, exploring extreme situations and exposing the hard and frustrating art of killing. All sums up on a splendid display of theatrical and cinematographic languages coexisting on an only stage.

Jazmines Residential Estates

Today we want to share with you all the images of  the latest  house in modern style built by VAPF in  Jazmines Residential Estates, jut by  along with South Information Office of Cumbre del Sol (Poble Nou de Benitachell).

The images were taken on Wednesday 30 November, 2011 and –as you can see in the pictures- the construction works are finished and now begins the second phase involving blemishes correction, furnishing and decoration of this superb house.

The kitchen is almost completed, with only some furniture and decorative items yet to be installed. You can appreciate in the pictures the extent,

distribution and design of this room as well as the premium furniture and equipment. All appliances (built and designed by Miele) are integrated into the design. The sink is an original design of Roca manufacturer and all the faucets are from Grohe.

In this image gallery you will find outdoors photos of the house, the infinite pool in the terrace, natural stone wall, garden, decorative elements, access doors to both garage and house, and of course the stunning sea view.

The Three Wise Men

Once again, the Three Wise Men are about to arrive in Teulada-Moraira with loads of toys, gifts, hopes and peace. Check below the details about the arrival of the emissaries first and then the Wise Men to Teulada-Moraira so we all can go to see them coming.

On Friday 30 December at 17:00 h the royal emissaries will come to Moraira via El Portet Avenue to the Church Square, which will gather the letters of all attendees in front of the Christmas tree. After the visit of the royal emissaries, the association of Moraira Housewives will sell chocolate and sweets at reasonable prices. After visiting Moraira, the royal emissaries will go to Teulada’s Town Council square at 18:00 hours, where the will collect letters from children in town.

On Thursday, 5 January, the Three Wise Men will arrive to l’Ampolla beach of Moraira at 17:00 hours and after that (by 18:00 h) they will go to Teulada. After a parade around the town, they will hand the gifts to all the children.

In this Holidays season we want to thank you for the trust placed in us during this year, when we reached important milestones always having in mind the innovation and excellent service to our customers.

Espai La Senieta

Today we want to share with you the schedule of events prepared for the months of December 2011 and January 2012 at the Auditorium of Teulada-Moraira, so you may  know all the cultural and entertainment options available in town.

Today Saturday 10 December 10 at 19:00 h you are invited to enjoy a piano concert performed by Daniel Pino, a Spanish pianist of international success. The admission fee is 10 €.

On Sunday 18 December, the  musical play Pinocchio, will amuse audiences for all ages, especially for children. This show was Max Awards finalist in 2011.

On Monday 26 December you can attend to the most anticipated show of this season: the Moscow Ballet will  perform Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker. Due to demand, two performances are scheduled at 19:00 and 22:00 hours. All advance tickets are all sold and there are only tickets on sale at the box office the day of the show. The entry fee is € 25.

On Friday 6 January, Felicitas Prikope and his orchestra of ten musicians will perform the Epiphany Concert , with pieces by Suppe, Mozart, Falla, Jimenez, Bizet and Johann Strauss. The concert is scheduled at 19:00 hours and the admission price is 12 €.

“Temps D’Escultures” sculptures exhibition by Quico Torres will be on the Auditorium Exhibition Hall until 25 April.

Also, in the Espai The Senieta of Moraira, tomorrow will take place at 19:00 h the Christmas concert of Felicitas Prikope , introducing the young tenor Jorge Navarro Colorado performing a repertoire of songs in German, French, Latin, Spanish and Catalan language. Admission fee: € 10.

On Thursday 15 December at 18:30 h, the English Choral will perform a Christmas Charity Concert. Donation : € 5.

As a preview for Teulada-Moraira’s next year schedule, we can announce for Saturday 21 January  at 19:00 h, the theater play ”Crimen Perfecto”  performed by  Jorge Sanz, Maria Castro, Pablo Puyol, Antonio Abella and Jose  Sanchez-Orosa. Admission price: € 22.

Christmas street markets

This year, the “Mercat de Nadal” (Christmas Market) in Teulada will be held on Sunday 4 December from 09:00 to 19:00 h. and, like every year, this traditional event will focus the attention of the whole Marina Alta area. About 200 stands will participate in this fair among individuals, associations and retailers who will offer handicrafts, ornaments, Christmas items, bargain items, local cuisine and many things more. This year’s market will also offer new activities and games for children including bouncy castles, clowns and recreational activities.

The Christmas Market of Teuladahas a long tradition of offering  typical  products of the region as “pastissets of moniato” (Sweet Potato Cakes),  home-made sausages and local products offered by Sant Vicent Ferrer Agricultural Cooperative of Teulada like sweet wine, raisins and vermouth.

Fiestas in Teulada

The Fiestas in Teulada will be held on 25, 26 and 27 November in honor of Santa Catalina Martyr (St. Catherine), patron saint of the town, The festival is organized by the Fiesta committee of San Vicente Ferrer  and with the collaboration of Teulada Town.

The celebrations will begin on Friday 25 November with a fellowship dinner at 21:00 hours. All interested in attending can make a reservation by calling 682 821 243. After dinner (around 23:30 hours) there will be a “Remember party ” in TeuladaTown Hall Square.

On Saturday 26 November will take place the “Mig any de quintades”,a celebration gor all the young boys and girs that have reach 18 years old this year. This is a traditiona rite of passage involving parades with marching bands, traditional food and music. The event will start at 10:00 h, food will be offered at 14:00 and music party will kick off at 16:30.

Sunday 27 November: Day in honor of Santa Catalina, with the celebration of a Mass sung by the Teuladina choir at 12:00. Later, at 18:00 hours there will be a procession in honor of the Patron Saint of Teulada.

Rock of Ifach, Calpe. Free tours

 Today we are glad to report about a new leisurely alternative in Costa Blanca: The guided tours to the Rock of Ifach —Peñón de Ifach— in Calpe. These tours are held as part of the program called ¿Qué diría Ifach si pudiera hablar? (a loose translation would be “what would the Rock of Ifach say if it could speak?), With walks through the environmental and cultural heritage which is the Rock of Ifach Nature Park.

The next visits are scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday 16^th November, 30th November and 14th December 2011. These will take place at 10:00 h mornings and the starting point is the Nature Park Info Office, located on 44 Ejércitos Españoles Avenue.

 The activity takes about 2:30 hours to complete and the path is considered to be of low difficulty. It ends at the tunnel.

It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and clothing, appropriate for this time of the year and for hiking. This activity is recommended for people over 12.

Today, Saturday 12 November will kick-off the Ondara Fair 2011, best known as the “Ondar’as Fair of Fairs 2011”.

Christmas School in Benitachell

During the next Christmas the Town of Poble Nou de Benitachell will open “Christmas School”, so working parents can leave their children in a nice environment with funny activities under the qualified personnel supervision during the holiday’s school break.

Christmas School will be open from 27 to 30 December, 2011 and from 2 to 4 January from 09:00 to 13:00 h. This activity is aimed for children from 3 to 12 years old and the price for it is just 25 € with lunch included.

This initiative of the government team of Poble Nou de Benitachell, is aimed to help parents to reconcile work and family life. The Christmas School is both an opportunity for children to socialize, play and have fun with other kids and an important help for parents that can’t alter their work schedule during Christmas school holidays.

Trekking competition at Vall del Pop

Next December’s bank holiday, La Vall del Pop will be seat of be two competitions for lovers of mountain sports, hiking and trekking:

6 December: “II Endurance BTT race  2011″

8 December: “I Mountain hiking and trekking competition 2011″

The II Endurance BTT race  2011 will consist in a two 24 Km laps run, making a 48 Km long total race length, while the I Mountain hiking and trekking competition will consist of just one long circuit (24 km) for the low impact walk competition and a  short circuit (15 Km) for the mountain trekking mode. All competitors in all modes will have to meet the conditions of marking, signage and security that the organization has set for this purpose. In addition, the

course will have 2 aid stations and space to rest and recover without hindering the progress of other athletes. Testing will begin both days at 09:00 h.

Both races will be run through walking paths, forest tracks and trails inside the town limits of Castell de Castells. Tests are open to the participation of all athletes in male and female categories from 16 years old.

Halloween in Costa Blanca

Halloween is a holiday celebrated in the All Saints day’s eve in places like Canada, U.S., Ireland and the UK. This celebration has increased its popularity in towns along the Costa Blanca North, either by the great expansive force that is American culture, or the large number of expats Britons who have chosen this sunny land to establish their residence, but wish to maintain and share their customs and festivities.

Lions Club Teulada-Moraira will organize a Halloween Party for the children on Monday 31 October 31 at 18:00 h. in the Moraira´s Church Square. In this party the kids will enjoy an afternoon with games, activities, face painting, bouncy castle and prizes for best costumes.

The same night, Fiestas Commission of San Vicente Ferrer of Teulada will celebrate Halloween 2011 with a party (this one for grown-ups) organized in Saxo Disco Club.

In Jávea the shops of the Old Town have organized a Halloween special evening starting at 18:00 h. with costumes contest for children and adults and many surprises.

All Saints Fair Denia

This week we propose you to enjoy a unique event in Valencia Region: the All Saints Fair of Cocentaina 2011 which this year celebrates its 665^th edition. The main difference  with other All Saints Fairs is that in in this one, visitors can seemore than 400 stands related to farm and livestock, including cattle auctions and machinery exhibition. This fair also brings an open air market with activities like medieval handcrafts, Arabic souk and typical Spanish cuisine stalls.

Benitachell Town Hall

The City of Poble Nou de Benitachell has made ​​available to all residents of the town a new interpretation and translation service, in order to meet the needs of all residents and ease the language barrier, reaching in this way a better understanding of the needs of the people.

The translation and interpretation service in English will be available on Mondays and Wednesdays, a service in German and French will be provided on Tuesday and Thursday.

This is for sure great news for all residents of the Cumbre del Sol, which will be the biggest benefited of this new service which will undoubtedly serve to ensure proper communication in administrative issues. In this first phase of the service, hours of translation and interpretation will be available from 9:30 to 13:30 h.

Senior Citizens in Christmas

It is open the enrollment period for those residents of Poble Nou de Benitachell, who wish to participate in the program “Do not be alone at Christmas”, an initiative undertaken by the Department of Social Services and Benitachell Department of Social Welfare, aimed to bring company to all those residents who are going to spend Christmas season alone.

All residents of Poble Nou de Benitachell, over 65 years old and who live alone are eligible for this program.

Those interested may register for being part of this program until 3 November at the Department of Social Services offices of Benitachell.

The program is available (besides for people over 65 years old) for pensioners, disable citizens and 60+ years old widows. Interested persons should not suffer any behavior disorder, have to fend for themselves to perform daily activities and live alone. The aim of this social program is to gather people in the same situation for spend Christmas holidays and some quality time from 23 to 27 December.

For more information about the program, interested residents should go to Department of Social Services to proceed with the application.

All Saints Fair Denia

Those who have grown up in one of the municipalities of Marina Alta, remember fondly the Fair of All Saints in Denia, wich always has been a fun fair organized in Denia to celebrate the Catholic traditional day after Halloween night.

This year the little ones will enjoy this endearing show from 21 October to 13 November 2011, in the parking Torrecremada in Denia (next to the Court House).

This year there will be 24 attractions for kids and 12 for grownups, the tickets will cost € 3 for regular attractions and 4 € for the special ones.

The best days to visit the Fair with children are 27 October and 3, 8, and 10 November, as are children’s discount days and rides will costs only 1.5 €. Among the new attractions for this year features the “Mountain of Terror”.

Another new feature of for this year  is the installation of a stage at the entrance of the fair where local groups such as Grupo Casa Castilla la Mancha, Casa de Andalucía and Babylon will perform to attract more people to the fair.

The fair will be open daily from 17:30 to 23:00, and Sundays and 1 November will be also open in the morning from 11:00 to 15:00 h. Those of you planning to visit the fair from outside Denia are advised to travel by train to the town since the parking space is limited.

Moraig Beach

The government team of the City of Poble Nou de Benitachell has asked the State Council of Coasts a bus to provide both residents and visitors of the municipality, access to the Cala Moraig.

This request is accompanied by several reports that highlight the need for a bus to access the Cala Moraig, the main tourist attraction of Poble Nou de Benitachell.

The report explains that access to the cove is every year more difficult, since the number of available parking spaces has been reduced considerably due to the works carried out by the same State Council of Coasts in 2010, leaving only about 30 parking spaces in the access area to the cove.

This report is supported by a dossier made by the Tourism Council which states that the visitor’s amount to the cove reaches the 98,000 tourists per year, concentrated mainly in the summer months. Also a report made by the local police indicates the problems of access and lack of parking in the area are evident and have worsened since 2009, when a storm damaged the car park. The police department also points out that this request will alleviate traffic access to the Cove, reducing the environmental impact improving road safety.

Last Saturday, 17 September, 2011, El Mundo newspaper reviewed in the gastronomic column La Cumbre restaurant, located on the Cumbre del Sol in Poble Nou de Benitachell. The article was entitled “Un paraíso en La Cumbre” (A paradise in the summit), and describes how “La Cumbre restaurant is a privilege because of its location and for being able to offer the two things at once: feed the soul and the body” in words of Antonio Rodríguez Martín, president of the Cultural Association of Gourmet Food Writers and Critics, an eminent auteur cuisine expert.

In his article, Antonio Rodríguez Martín praises the good work of  Eloy Martínez and his wife Celia (owners of the restaurant) and their  kindness, professionalism and of course the delicacies made in their kitchen as the micuit of duck with honey bread, apple and parmesan lollipop , fried camembert with cranberry marmalade , tapas of blue  tuna with tomato jam and black olives and  the flagship course of the house:   Chateaubriand La Cumbre with red wine.

Mr. Rodriguez began his article describing the wonders of the surroundings of the restaurant, its lounges and pool terrace overlooking the Costa Blanca’s Mediterranean Sea, where a delicious food is more enjoyable, delicious and memorable with Ibiza Island rising in the far horizon, adding that the situation is a good value to the restoration and quality of service, and a supplement that can make the difference between this restaurant and others.

Drug use prevention Lecture

Poble Nou de Benitachell will host lectures about prevention of drug addiction among the youth. This cycle of four lectures has been organized by the Department of Social Services of the Town of Benitachell beginning on past Thursday 29 September and will be followed with new lectures that will be held on 27 October, 24 November and 15 December at 19:00 h at the Town’s Community Center.

The lectures will be given by a specialist that will open a participatory round for attendees who will be allowed to submit questions or experiences about drugs use. Also, professionals from the department of Social Services will be available to assist to all those interested in having help in any related aspect.

These seminars are developed around teenage as a time of crisis, assertive communication, problem solving, attention and respect needs, child behavior and limits situations and its consequences. The meetings will last approximately one hour and are open to all the community.

Volvo Ocean Race 2011

The Race Village of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012 will open at the port of Alicante on 14 October, the same day that will begin three busy weeks of activities in Alicante in the framework of the regattas and races of the Stage 1 of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012 that will connect Alicante to the South African port of Cape Town in a route of 6,500 nautical miles (12,038 kilometers) on 5 November 2011.

The Race Village will be a sort of amusement park with free access to the dock of the port of Alicante, which will remain open for three weeks until 5 November and will have a comprehensive schedule by the sea for all who enjoy the sailing sports.

Among the activities planned we can highlights the museum of the Volvo Ocean Race, which will have one permanent exhibition and a temporary one, where you can  observe the work in the control room of the race where the fleet is monitored 24 hours a day until the arrival to Galway (Ireland) next July 2012.

In addition, the visitors can get close to the Volvo Open 70 race boats -the fastest single hull sailing boats in the world- and even compare them with the boats of past editions, set out in the harbor. Visitors can experience the atmosphere of race, mingle with the crews and see how they get ready for competition.

29 October: In-Port Race or shore Regatta: quick and tactic waterfront race which will decide the first leader of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12.

30 October: Pro-Am Race, as the In-Port race, but with the presence of guests on board.

Alicante Council

On 23 September, 2011 Official Gazette of the Province of Alicante number 183 contained an edict of the City Council regarding the Benitachell Municipal Emergency Planning, which states that will be presented at the City hall of Benitachell until Sunday 9 October. Once the public exhibition ends, the plan has to be approved by the municipal corporation.

The Municipal Territorial Emergency Plan contains a set of measures and actions that the City of Benitachell with the Provincial Council of Alicante, have developed for a coordinated management of emergencies that may occur in the municipality.

This model intends to coordinate actions among different public and private public entities involved in handling emergencies that may occur in the municipality and the Community.

Legal and employment advice

New service for all the interested in general and particularly for women and young people in Poble Nou de Benitachell: Legal and employment advice. This temporary free service has been an initiative of the Department of Social Services, Youth and Women and will be operational until next Friday 30 December 2011.

This new initiative of the City of Benitachell has been created in order to provide legal and labor advice to all residents of the municipality who need any kind help on issues of social, family and work. Among the different social groups in the municipality, this program will make a greater effort aimed at targeting youth and women in problems related to rental or purchase of housing, employment contracts, mortgages, divorce counseling, social rights, gender violence, etc.

Another collective Targeted in this program are the immigrants, in which case they receive information and assistance in the areas like work permits, residence permits, family reunification and procedures for regulation of migratory status.

To use this new service is necessary to make an appointment, either in person (at the department of social services located in Town Hall Market Street No. 1) or by telephone through the number 966 493 992 / 966 493 369. Appointments will be provided on Friday from 10:00-14:00 h until Friday 30 December 2011. It is imperative to get an appointment because it is a personalized and confidential service run by skilled and experienced in each of the subjects treated.

Benitachell local police

Benitachell local police, in collaboration with the Municipality, the Ministry of Interior and the DGT (Spanish transit Authority) has launched a campaign aimed at road safety, seatbelt use and child restraint systems.

The police department has launched this campaign to coincide with the opening of the school year, as the entrances of the schools are one of the places where most violations are detected.

A comprehensive brochure have been  produced  in order to inform the details of the rules for using safety belt for the driver and the occupants , info about the penalty for breaching serious offense punishable by € 200 and the loss of 5 points.

The brochure emphasizes how important, safe and necessary for children is to have an approved car seat or booster seat according to the kid’s weight and height,

It is very interesting to point that although people have increased the security belt use; there are still large loopholes where it is still legal not to use the belt. It is very hard to understand why laws aren‘t clearer about this, since a better understanding of the law can reduce road death in between 20 and 35%

The campaign is especially aimed at the protection of the kids and the motto is clear:

The Three Wise Men visiting Benitachell

Today, we bring fresh news about Poble Nou de Benitatxell that residents will surely find useful.

First, we would like to inform you about the meeting to take place next Saturday, 22 September 2011 to promote the Three Wise Men Committee. Poble Nou de Benitatxell is looking forward to start the preparations for the new Three Wise Men cavalcade/parade and the events related to it. For this, the town council expects the contribution of all residents with ideas and active participation. The Three Wise Men parade is a much awaited annual parade in Benitatxell and a very important date for kids in town, as it is a great opportunity to see their majesties live and receive gifts directly from them.

We have received more news this month: The Coasts Office has finished adapting the protective barriers in Cala Moraig cove, in Benitachell. The Alicante Coasts Office finished with the adaptation works of the protective barriers and the signs on both the parking and the beach of Cala Moraig cove in Poble Nou de Benitachell.

The office reporting to the Environment Ministry installed protective barriers in different access points of the beach and has also installed wooden structures in front if Cova dels Arcs cove —as well as on the entrance to the beach. Also, the Coasts Office set a wooden walkway to make it easier for visitors to enter the beach area, and put a sign on the roundabout to access the parking near the beach. The Benitachell Town Council acknowledged and thanked the Coasts Office for the improvement works carried out in Cala Moraig.

XVI Moraira-Santa Eulalia (Ibiza)-Moraira Regatta

This is a regatta organized by both Moraira and Santa Eulalia Yacht Clubs with the permission of the Sailing Federation of the Comunitat Valenciana. This event will be held from 7 to 14 September.

The event is open to cruise ships of all classes with more than nine meters in length and equipped with valid RI Rating Certificate.

The first test will start on Wednesday 14 September at 24:00 h out from the port of Moraira, with destination Santa Eulalia Port (Ibiza), via Els Freis.

Javea Race for Life

Next Sunday 25  September at 11:00 h, the Arenal beach will host the Jávea’s Race for Life, a charity race event organized by the Association Against Cancer and sponsored by the Sports Council of Jávea in aim of raising funds for supporting cancer charities as MABS, EOS, ASPANION and AECC.

The 5 Km race will start at 11:00 h at the L’Ancora Playa Bar located by Paris Ave. in Jávea. The activities will begin at 10:30 h with a “fun warm up session” with the participation of all racers and organizers.

Here you can check information about the upcoming courses and workshops in Poble Nou de Benitachell for the next few months. The town of Benitachell will offer language lessons, sport activities and some other activities.

The Municipal Center for Adult Education is organizing the following courses:

Adults Graduate course in secondary education, Castilian and Catalan language lessons at beginner, intermediate, advanced and conversation levels; fitness gymnastic classes, yoga and computing.

Jávea Swim Crossing

The Club Náutico Xàbia -Jávea’s Yacht Club, the Jávea Sports Council and the Town Hall of Javea are organizing the II Xàbia Swim Crossing for next Sunday September 11. This sports event will comprise two competitions of 400 and 4500 meters, as follows:

Circuit A, 400 meters: Test delimited with start and finish signal beacons at La Grava beach by the Port of Jávea. This event will start at 10:30 or just after the arrival of the last competitor 4,500 meters test, whatever happens first. Collection of competitor’s material will start at 09:00 h until 15 minutes before the starting gun for this test.

Circuit B, 4,500 meters: This will be a way longer (and more demanding) competition. The scheduled time for this circuit will be at 08:30 h at La Caleta beach and the finish line will be at La Grava beach, not too far from the Port of Jávea. Competitor’s material and cloakroom service will be available from 7:30 to 8:25 h.

All those interested in participating in this event can register online at www.conxip.com for a registration fee of just 12 € for non-federated swimmers and € 10 for federated swimmers. There are several categories so participation is open to everybody: Junior (swimmers born between 1992 and 1994), Senior (born between 1976 and 1991), Master 35 (1966 to 1975) and Master 45 (1965 and before). There is a category for children born in 1998 and 1999 in the 400 meters circuit.

The awards ceremony will take place 20 minutes after the finishing of the 400 meters competition and trophies will be presented to the top three in each category in both men and women of the two circuits.

Benitachell Music Band

The Santa Maria Magdalena Musical Band from Poble Nou de Benitachell has been recognized by the Ministry of Culture of the Valencia Region as a Local Relevance Intangible Asset.

This achievement is a reward for the effort and good work of the musical group towards the preservation of musical tradition and the promotion of Valencia local culture. Official recognition is reflected in the Order 1 / 2011 published in the 6571 Official Gazette of the Valencia Region.

The Poble Nou band was founded in 1987, as recorded in the official publication. From its inception, this musical band -currently consisting of 45 musicians- has had an important social and cultural repercussion in local scene.

The music school, the band as well as its child and youth subsidiaries have been elements of social cohesion both in its internal town activities and its relations with the people of neighboring towns.

Among The Benitachell (close to Cumbre del Sol residential estate) band’s most recent milestones can be mentioned the recording of the first CD last fall called ‘Pas als Pobleros’. This CD -directed by Pedro Vicente Caselles Mulet- includes unpublished works composed entirely by Antonio J. Catalá Buigues, a local musician and director of music school.

Congratulations to all who have contributed towards this achievement and good luck in the labor of spreading the musical culture of Benitachell and the rest of the region.

Night walking tour in Benitachell

Today, Tuesday 30 August to next Friday 2 September, Benitachell will host the last two summer urban excursions around the Poble Nou de Benitachell town limits in the framework of the “Caminade d’estiu” (summer walk) program, an initiative of the Sports Council of the city of Poble Nou de Benitachell, to promote sport for all ages while learning more about the town and municipality.

Those interested in participating must attend the town hall (the starting point of the tour) at 22:15 h. It is not necessary to register in advance.

The five-kilometre nighttime tours through the village and the municipality is considered a low difficulty activity and is therefore suitable for all the citizens.

Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

There are shirts available for all attendees for a nominal fee of 2 €.

Take advantage of this initiative, stroll around Benitachell and discover the charm of its streets and the beauty of its surroundings.

Fiestas in Jàvea’s Harbour

Today we want to inform all followers of the Cumbre del Sol Blog about the festivities that will take place in Jávea’s Duanes del Mar seaport from 27 August to 8 September. These fiestas will be held in honor of the patron saint of the port of Javea, the Virgin of Loreto also called “Mare de Déu de Loreto”

Jazz by the Sea in Moraira

Today, we would like to invite you to enjoy a musical Sunday afternoon.

Teulada-Moraira has organized a live jazz evening of in the streets of Moraira, not too far from the beach. This event will take place next Sunday 28 August from 19:00 h in several streets around the town of Moraira.

The groups involved in this initiative will perform live jazz, latin-jazz and funk music.

The band which will open the concert will be So de Mar at 19:00 h in the pergola of the l’Ampolla beach. Next, Jazztembé will take the stage on the Explanada del Castillo at 20:00 h.

The show will continue with Nova Music concert at 21:00 h. in the Plaza de la Sort and then Camaleon will play at 22:00 h at Barranquet street just before the grand finale performed by Berenguer Brass at 23:00 h at Mar Street.

Do not miss this chance of enjoying a stroll by the streets of Moraira with good live music and the Mediterranean Sea as a background.

Is you still want more good music, don’t miss the Bourbon Street Stompers concert on Saturday 3 September at the new Teulada Moraira Auditorium. The show will start at 20:30 h and the admission fee will be €12.

Bourbon Street Stompers are traditional jazz leaders in Germany with a very authentic style. This band consists of 7 musicians accompanied by John Maddock, one of the best clarinetists and saxophonists in the UK, and the brilliant jazz singer Elizabeth Berent from Hamburg, Germany.

Moscatell Festival in Teulada-Moraira 2011

Teulada-Moraira is a town with rooted wine traditions, to the point if being —together with tourism— its economic motor.

For this reason, every year the town holds the Moscatell Festival, to celebrate the moscatell grape harvested in Teulada, raw material of the traditional and widely known “mistela de Teulada” —Teulada hot punch.

The festival takes place on Saturday 20 August. In this popular festival, visitors can learn the traditional methods to make wine, dance, enjoy the parades, taste grapes and hot punch, etc. This is the schedule.

19:30  h: Wine harvest parade with carriages from the “Venta” (Gabriel Miró Square) to Sant Vicent roundabout. The “Associació de Traginers Alejandro Morell” and the “Font Santa” dance group will be taking part. The parade will be accompanied by tabal and dulzaina (traditional instruments) players. The dance group will be doing different choreographies along the parade.

Next, Show-and-tell of how wine is made the traditional way, on the roundabout. Once this exhibition is finished, visitors will be offered wine and hot punch from the Sant Vicent Ferrer Cooperative.

• At 21.30 h: Popular dinner with free sweet breads with spread tomato and oil .

Querida Matilde arrives in Teulada-Moraira

The tickets for the events taking place in the Teulada-Moraira auditorium next September 2011 are already on sale.

The season opens with a traditional jazz show by the Germans Bourbon Street Stompers on 3 September. This group is made by 7 musicians and one of the best clarinet and sax players in the UK, John Maddocks, and the fantastic jazz singer Elisabeth Berent, from Hamburg. The admission is 12 EUR.

The next event is on 18^th September: “Querida Matilde”, starred by Lola Herrera, with the special appearance of Ana Labordeta and Daniel Freire.

This theatre play is the adaptation of the work by Israel Horowitz from Antonio Albert. The director is Juan Luis Iborra, script and writer. Matilde (Lola Herrera) is a seasoned woman who happens to receive and unexpected visit.

Matthias just arrived from Buenos Aires to look after the inheritance left by his father: a luxurious flat in the city. What Matthias does not know is that Matilde and her daughter live in the flat and he will inherit it only after she dies —something that is not in her short or mid-term plans.

Matilde only agrees to rent him a room until he returns to his country. Matilde’s daughter is puzzled. She does not understand the reason for an stranger to arrive home and try to kick them out. But she and Matthias will soon discover the story behind Matilde as the play unwinds. The admission is 12 EUR.

The tickets can be bought at Servicam, the box offices of the auditorium from 16:00 to 21:00 h from Wednesday to Saturday, in the Town Hall or in Espai La Senieta.

The included pictures are mostly of the works being built on the outside part of the property, to set the plot ready: Perimeter walls, access gates, long garden pots, etc.

In the last month, the perimeter walls on natural stone have been finished. A cover in artificial stone with concrete and a straight railing on lacquered iron have been added to the wall, to match the style of the rest of the property. In the process, long garden pots have also been built by the access points of the property.

The access door and the garage gate to enter the property are now installed. For this property, the interior designer chose doors with iron frames and wood plates by Iroko.

The decorative pond next to the entrance of the property is also finished. The pond has been tiled with metallic tiles to create nice effects and shapes depending on how the light reflections.

The last already finished element is the metallic pillars on the veranda, covered with an aluminium sheets, on the same style of the windows fittings.

The building works on this superb house are expected to end by the end of September or start of October. Important for the builders is to care for even the slightest detail. From the moment the building works end, the interior designer will take over and we all expect an official opening in November. You will then be invited to visit it.

Jávea’s Portitxol

During summer, most towns in Costa Blanca celebrate their patron saint fiestas, as well as local festivals in different zones within towns. It must be the inviting weather, with lovely, warm nights perfect to go outdoors and enjoy the party.

This month in Jávea there will be some fiestas. One of the is the Fiesta at the Jávea’s Portitxol, a popular festival organized by the residents with the help of the town hall. This traditional fiesta was long forgotten, but now residents are trying to bring it back.

This year, the Jávea’s Portitxol fiesta takes place on 13 and 14 August. It will be held on the esplanade of the fince in front of the Portitxol cross. This is the calendar of events to get you ready for this festival:

Saturday, 13^th August 2011:

18:30 h. Parade with Dolçaina i Tabalet to start the festival. It will make a circular route starting and ending in the Portitxol cross. First, it will go through the L’Illa street and will return through the road.

19:30 h: Popular snack time with snowballs and sweet buns with cream (bambas).

20:30 h: “Sarao” and dance accompanied by a group of serenaders, the Portitxol band and the “Colla de dolçainas i tabalets” (a group of musicians playing traditional instruments).

22:00 h: Bring your own dinner picnic (drinks can be bought at the venue).

23:00 h: Dance with the Colors orchestra.

Fiestas in Benitachell to honour Mary Magdalene

July is officially the month of the festivals in Benitachell; the Moors and Christians festival has just finished and now the feast to honour Mary Magdalene, patron saint of the town, start.

This year, the festival start on Tuesday 19^th July and end on Saturday 30^th. That makes 12 intense days with party and religious activities in Benitachell. This is the schedule of events arranged by the “festeros” in Benitachell to celebrate the feat of Mary Magdalene this year:

Tuesday 19^th: First day of the Triduum, with a mass at 09:30 h.

Wednesday 20^th: Second Triduum day with a mass at 09:30 h and the decoration of the streets to take part in a contest.

Thursday 21: Third Triduum day;  introduction to the “festeros” (festival organizers) and music show by the Montercarlo Orchestra.

Friday 22^nd: Solemn mass with chants at 12:00 h to honour Mary Magdalene, followed by a procession at 21:00 h, a fireworks show and dance party until sunrise.

Saturday 23^rd: “Quintadas” day, a day in which people born in the same year get together in groups. Party all day with music shows and music on the street.

Sunday 24^th: Mass to honour Saint Christopher at 12:00 h. A Paellas contest will follow at Mayor de Benitachell Street. Then, at 19:00 h, cavalcade with coaches at 19:00 h and dance party at 00:00 h.

Monday 25^th: Children’s play area, a procession to honour Saint James, a fireworks show and a music show.

From Tuesday 26^th to Sunday 30^th, every night there will be dinners on the street and bullfighting from 19:00 h to 00:00 h every night, as well as “toros embolados” (bulls to which balls of fire are tied to their horns).

This is, without a doubt, a fiesta to enjoy and share with the residents in the region and with the tourist who are visiting this town and Cumbre del Sol.

This summer, buying an apartment, house or villa at Cumbre del Sol residential park is easier than never before. During July and August, the sales and information offices of Grupo VAPF at Cumbre del Sol will remain open every day of the week, Saturdays and Sundays included.

Cumbre del Sol has two sales and information offices: one of them is located by the north exit to Cumbre del Sol (as you come from Benitachell, LaGala road). The second one is located by the south exit to Cumbre del Sol (Moraira-Benitachell road). These offices will be open Mondays through Fridays from 10:15 h to 19:00 h and Sundays morning, from 10:15 h to 14:00 h.

The Head offices of VAPF in Benissa also change opening hours, remaining open to the public Mondays to Fridays from 08:00 h to 15:00 h, and closing for holidays from 8th to 21st August.

III Tapas Crawl in Benissa

The Tapas Crawl in Benissa this year is called “3º Ruta Benissa amb Sabor: Cultura i tapes” and it’s not a typical tapas route. This time, they added a twist of something different: Food and music come together to deliver a singular experience until the 31^st of July.

Everything starts today. At 21:00 h, there will be an opening event at Jaume I square. A show by “Sifasol”, the local school of modern music, will follow.

Then, every Friday at 22:00, the Jaume I square will keep the musical ambiance with appearances by the Silfasol band.

A total of 15 restaurants will take part in the crawl, offering two different tapas.

The combo tapa + drink will cost only €2. You can choose between beer, water or soda to have with your tapa.

For another year, the Moors and Christians festival —Moros y Cristianos— arrive to Poble nou de Benitachell, from 8^th to 10^th July 2011.

Exhibitions of old weapons being used, music and parades will fill the streets of this beautiful town in Costa Blanca north.

Friday, 8th July:

At 23:30 h, the party will start with a parade where “filaes” (the grous) will progressively take part. This parade will be led by the standard of the Junta Central —Main Committee. As the parade end, the start of the festival will be proclaimed, and all the standards presented. Then, the Moorish Embassy will appear first, followed by the Christian Embassy, on Plaza Nueva, while an impressive show of fireworks (fireworks castle) happens. The party at the Kabilas will follow.

Saturday, 9th July:

At 09:00 h, there will be an exhibition of old weapons (blunderbusses) by the groups accompanied by their music bands.

At 12:00 h, there will be another parade, visiting the Ben-Abiar and Les Pobladores Kábilas.

At 19:30 h, there will be a flowers offering followed by a mass to honour Saint Sebastian, patron saint of Moors and Christians in Benitachell. As this event ends, the bowties will be granted to the music bands of the Town Hall.

Sunday, 10th July:

At 09:00 h, there will be an exhibition of old weapons (blunderbusses) by the groups accompanied by their music bands.

Bous a La Mar Fiesta

As July arrives in Dénia, also do “Bous a la Mar” (Bulls at the Sea), a very traditional festival taking place not only in Dénia, but also in Jávea and Moraira. The ones in Dénia might well be one of the Spanish festivals most covered by the national media. Actually, these were declared a “Festival of National Interest” in Spain back in 1993.

Last 20^th June, people started to set up the pseudo bullring at the port of Dénia, to celebrate this deeply rooted fiesta.

The Bulls at the Sea take place during the Santísima Sangre festival; these are the patron saint fiestas of the city. This year, they start on 9^th July, and end on 17^th July. During the time the fiesta lasts, both visitors and residents will be able to enjoy any of the scheduled events: the Santísima Sangre procession, the music concerts —one of the most relevant is that of the Musical-Artistic Group of Dénia—, fireworks, floats parade and music on the streets.

Actually, the music is considered of provincial tourist interest and the floats are totally handcrafted.

Laude The Lady Elizabeth School

Today, we would like to share a video with all those parents of kids in school age looking for a bilingual education.

It is the video of Laude The Lady Elizabeth School, a prestigious school with two buildings: one of them built by Grupo VAPF at “Laude The Lady Elizabeth Junior School” Cumbre del Sol residential estate and the “Laude The Lady Elizabeth Junior School” in Llíber.

Today, we will focus on the facilities of the school located on Cumbre del Sol residential estate. This city neighbouring Cumbre del Sol where Grupo VAPF builds its properties has an attractive that resists time.

The Alicante Youth Orchestra

The Teulada-Moraira Auditorium recently opened its doors a couple of months ago and the long list of concerts, plays and exhibitions held in this venue to date make it seem like it was ages since the first event took place.

In July, the Auditorium welcomes a talented group of musicians: The Orquesta de Jóvenes de la Provincia de Alicante —the Alicante Province youth Orchestra.

Francisco Maestre, a great director, leads the orchestra while Juan Sáez Pertusa, the president, is on charge of leading this non-profit organization which main purpose is to share and promote their love for music.

The OPJA —short for its name in Spanish— will hold a concert on 2^nd July at the Teulada-Moraira Auditorium.

Two excellent soloists will accompany the orchestra: Andrei Frolov and Concha Marcos de León.

Admission is free but limited to capacity of the venue. We recommend you to arrive early to secure a seat and enjoy this great concert.

A couple of months ago, we informed about the intentions of Canal 9 of shooting a report on a property at Cumbre del Sol to broadcast it in its TV show, Interiors.
